Wichita Falls Guitar Show and a dear old friend... |

Stevarino and I attended the local guitar show again this year here in Wichita Falls, Texas, the home of BonsaiChainsaw and 500poundcanary.com. Our town is only @ 100,000 so we don't pull as many large guitar dealers as Dallas or Arlington does, and to be honest last year, except for a certain fretless bass that really put a gleam in the S-man's eye, I thought it was a snore. This year was the same except one guy here in town who builds completely by hand, incredible electric guitars. Pretty much like a Paul Reed Smith in general design, he has his own headstock design as well. But the real treasure from this year came as soon as we walked in the door of the show. In the first booth was a dear old friend neither Steve or I had seen for a great while. Our high school history teacher, Gary Gregg. When I was in the 10th or 11th grade there was a school program that featured 'talent' from school. A friend named Jim Collins and I and a really great drummer named Joel were going to play a Zeppelin tune that I knew the lead part to pretty well. Gary knew about the show and I don't remember exactly how we got to it, but Jim, Joel and I wound up backing up for Gary as he ripped out a killer version of Bo Diddley's Who do you Love? on lead guitar and vocals, using the michrophone stand to play the slide lead guitar parts. There were a bunch of hot, 'Styx' and 'Zeppelin' wanna-be bands including my own, but when Gary unplugged that Fender No-caster and walked off the stage, every person in the house was standing, every hand was clapping and he showed all of us teenaged guitar slinging badasses how it was really done. And I can replay that performance in my head a million times and smile every time I see that slide solo. He didn't tell us he was going to do it. But he did. And it rocked hard.
Feel free to post on any subject in this thread. If spammers post in the thread, and they do quite frequently, I delete their posts and ban them and their IP's. Unfortunately this often makes it impossible for non spammers from the same region to gain access to the site. But suffice it to say, we do not allow or endorse selling watches or fake designer crap on this site. Don't click any links to stuff for sale on this site unless it is someone's music or those ads at the top and please do click those regularly and buy lots of stuff. :)

What is your band doing? What do you want it to do? My band, BonsaiChainsaw, has completed an EP and is working on their first full length CD. (the EP is 5 scorchers from the bands growing accidental repertoire ) We are listed with a lot of websites and we have hundreds of followers on various sites. We are listed as the number three(3) rock band in our area on reverb nation. Our city is rich with great bands that play every weekend and many have done so for decades. Since we as BonsaiChainsaw have never played a gig, I am chuffed that we rate as highly as we do. We spend most Friday and Saturday evenings watching videos, listening to music, recording music, creating music and annoying cats. We do other things that enhance the music as well. Currently, I have a stack of tracks I am working through to find the 'centre' of the new CD. My bandmate is likely doing the same. He could tell you a lot more about where the band is listed online as well and other places you can hear our music or see our videos. So, WTF are you doing?

Welcome to the 500poundcanary.com musicians website. We are for all musicians, with indie artists being the focus. We are here to stay, but not in a hurry. The features on the site are all functional and it is monitored regularly to remove spam posts and delete spammers. When the daily traffic warrants, it will be monitored daily. Until then, thank you for ignoring the assholes who post spam laden blog entries. The owners of this site are musicians who got tired of seeing their favorite indie sites turn into record producers who decide what is good enough to be on their site. We figure we aren't qualified to decide what someone else might really dig. We will let our site's listeners decide what they like. Nothing illegal in the USA may be posted. Gotta be a rule or two somewhere when members are allowed to post content on the internet. And to those who do post your putrid spam, you are crapping on a good thing. Nobody likes spam and everybody likes some kind of music. Once your IP is tagged you are not going to be allowed back on the site. |
